From what I've gathered it is a dupe method. I really do not dupe etc., so I'm ignorant on the subject.
I'm curious what the big deal is, how it is kept so secret (well, not secret now).

It's not a dupe method. I guess you could say that rollback deletes everyting that happened in a game.
It makes you lag out of the game and you won't be able to join for like 5-10 minutes and everything that
happened in the game is gone. So you could do hell forge quest and if you get a bad rune you rollback and
you get a new chance. You can also use it to make perfect runewords and other stuff. It basically makes you
able to re-do anything you want to.

I will try to go a bit further

Blizzard runs around 200 servers for each realm

On each of this server are lots of games hosted

So for example on the ip .40:4000 (40=game ip) there are 20 games running or something like that

The server sends packets to your client, your client sends packet to the server

The rollback worked with the overheadplugin. And there had to be clean lines. The overheadmod sent overhead packets and when it sent clean lines to show overhead, they server did not know how to react on that. He had also to show the casted fireballs -) overflow, server restarts it self

So for all these 20 games there is a rollback to the last save point that was made

There are several actions that saves the game:

- U die 16 times (16 dead bodys "exploit", maybe you have heard about that)
- Someone joins the game
- Someone leaves the game
- Also sometimes random

This is why you can not easy dupe with it

Means:

A gives Items to B
B leaves the game
A rollback

Will not work. Because when B leaves the game, the games is saved for A and B. So if A makes a rollback, it will rollback the game to the point when B leaved.

In theory it should still be able to dupe with rollback:

The last character who joins a game will be safed first

So if you join a game with 8 characters.

Player 1 gives items to Player 8

They all full there whole inventory/stash/cube with items. So the savefunction need some more time (will still be extremly fast)

Player 8 leaves the game and the others instantly rollback the game

Then Player 8 could also have the items

I guess with some packetsender/programs, that could be possible

Things that won´t work with rollback:

- identify for example anni, rollback it and identify it again. It will allways have the same stats, same for all other items
- Socking an item. Will always have the same sockets
- Upgrading defense. Will always have the same defense

What you can do:

- rollback runewords (stats are always different)
- Scamming (u give em items, he gives u fg, you rollback the game = you got items, fg) lots of people on jsp did it when rollback was public
- Crafting and gambling. If you have only crap, just rollback
- Hellforgequest till you have the best rune possible
- Ut till you have the best torch
- Also usefull for high baalruns. For example if a level 98 dies, just rollback it and he has his xp back

This should be all about it, maybe I forgot something

the rollback that was realeased would crash the entire game server, which is why everyone was complaining about it, meaning every game on that server would crash along with the rolled back game.

Yeah it can be good or bad, but the people who abuse the living crap out of it for their benefit can come out with some incredibly ridiculous results. Example:d2 item stores.
