I'm assuming you are talking about Diablo 2.

There are some third party programs that let you edit your characters attributes; dexterity, vitality, strength, and energy, as well as defense, life, mana, skills, you name it.

I've not heard much of customized characters though; I did talk to someone over Battle.net once and witnessed his amazon use the Assassin skill Kick.

Hey
To answer your question more specifically, you cannot create your OWN class as in nothing out of the usual Necro, Amazon, Barbarian, Sorceress, Paladin, Assassin and Druid.
But you can use hero editor for single player and open battle.net use to mod your characters attributes and make your own pimped out scandalous gear just google search hero editor and how to use it. smile

there are also mods that are basically completely different games than diablo.
for example, median xl.

Actually, you can do it with a third party program. I think it was G mod or something like that happy

My answer would be no. I doubt that's a possibility but I have had an assassin look like a Zon on Closed bnet.

not possible on open b.net
only if you use 3 Ti's injector you can export certain items on battle.net
like killersdream , but since it costs crapload of money wont be happening , most items exported
will poof when game is left, because b.net cant save them since they are not registered with battle.net.

@ topic yes you can create your own class, but you must diablo coding well and make bunch of graphics to it to work succesuflly unless you plan to sue already existing skills. you would have to make all attacks graphics, char etc by yourself.
and would be playable only at single player , because that char would not be registered or permitted on open or closed battle.net since once again its not registered with battle.net.

Good example of someone making new classes can be found in russian version of diablo2
there are classes like shaman , Lich, and knight
which are very similar to druid/necro/paladin but look/attacks are different
