Retardacja (łac., retardatio ‘opóźnienie’) – jedna z figur retorycznych; jej celem jest zwiększenie napięcia u czytelnika poprzez opóźnienie bądź zatrzymanie akcji utworu, zwykle literackiego.
W Iliadzie Homera, przykładem retardacji jest przeniesienie się akcji do kuźni Hefajstosa, tuż przed istotnym pojedynkiem Hektora z Achillesem.
