If you experience difficulty installing, running, or staying connected to Diablo III, This contains common troubleshooting techniques that can be used to address issues you may experience on your journey back to D3
Important Reminders
Some hardware will not work with Diablo III, and is unsupported. For information on supported hardware, see Diablo III Video Card Support Article
The Global Play feature will not be enabled until after the servers in all regions are live. Players will only be able to play Diablo III in their home region until Global Play becomes available.
f you are experiencing a technical issue that is not addressed in the steps below, have a look at Technical Support Forums (PC) (Mac) for assistance with your problem.
The Real Money Auction House will not be available at launch. It will be turned on at a later date. Stay tuned for more information!
Installation Issues
If you experience issues installing Diablo III, refer to Diablo III Installation Troubleshooting support article for assistance. (PC) (Mac)
Note: Players who participated in the Diablo III beta may experience issues installing the game. If you participated in the beta and cannot install the game, please completely uninstall the beta client and follow the troubleshooting steps under the Agent section, below.
Agent
Issues with the Agent helper program may prevent Diablo III from installing or updating properly. If you notice your installation hanging, or if you receive errors specific to Agent, try the following steps:
Windows
1. Stop the installation process if it’s still running.
2. Wait for at least one minute. Ensure that Agent.exe no longer appears in the Processes tab of your Task Manager.
3. Restart the installation.
If that does not resolve the issue, delete the C:\ProgramData\Battle.net folder and try the installation again. The launcher will automatically rebuild this folder. If you cannot locate this folder, try these steps:
1. Click Start
2. Click Control Panel
3. If you are in Classic View:
Select Folder Options
Click the View tab
In Advanced Settings under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
Click OK.
4. If you are in Category View:
Select Appearance and Personalization
In the Folder Options section, select Show hidden files and folders. This will bring up the Folder Options window.
Click on the View tab.
In the Advanced Settings section under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
Click OK.
5. Try again to navigate to the proper folder:
Windows Vista/7: C:\ProgramData\Battle.net
Windows XP: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
6. Delete the folder, then reattempt the installation.
Mac
1. Stop the installation process if it’s still running.
2. Wait at least one minute. Ensure that Agent no longer appears in your Activity Monitor. For information on how to access your Activity Monitor, see Background Applications support article
3. Restart the installation.
If that does not resolve the issue, delete the /Users/Shared/Battle.net folder and try the installation again. The launcher will automatically rebuild this folder.
Switching Languages
If you try to switch languages without enough hard drive space to download the new language’s game client, you may see an error reading “Failed to initialize streaming” or “Failed to read a file”. To address this, clear some space on your hard drive and try again.
Login Issues
BattleTag Required
In order to access Diablo III, players must set up a BattleTag for their Battle.net Account. To set up your BattleTag, go to your Battle.net Account Management.Under Account Details, you’ll see BattleTag. Create one now.
Error 37
The servers will send an Error 37 message when they are under heavy load. If you are not able to log into Diablo III and receive an Error 37 message, try logging in again. It may take several login attempts before you successfully connect.
Error 3006
While playing a Demon Hunter, if a shield is equipped to the Templar follower before encountering Jondar and hire the Templar, you will be disconnected from Battle.net. You may be unable to login, receiving the message "Error 3006". We are currently investigating this issue, and further updates can be found on the 1.0.1 Known Issues thread.
Performance Issues
Drivers
Ensure that you are running up-to-date drivers for your computer’s hardware. Older drivers may not be able to handle Diablo III as effectively. For information on updating your computer’s drivers (both PCs and Macs), see Driver Update Information support article.
Note: Windows Vista and 7 users with AMD Catalyst 12.4 drivers and Radeon HD 2400, 2600, 2900, 3400, 3600, and 4500 cards may experience video-related issues in Diablo III. See the Known Issues section, below, for more information.
Background Programs
If there are programs running in the background on your computer, Diablo III’s performance may be affected. Be sure to close any unnecessary programs prior to launching Diablo III. For more information, see Closing Background Applications
Note: Certain overlay programs such as Mumble, XFire, EVGA Precision, Airfoil by Rogue Amoeba, MSI Afterburner, Dxtory, RadeonPro, or Taksi may cause Diablo III to crash. If you experience a crash and are running any of these programs, make sure to update them before launching Diablo III again. If crashing continues, we recommend not running these programs when launching Diablo III.
Known Issues
AMD Catalyst Driver Version 12.4
Windows Vista and 7 users with AMD Radeon HD 2400, 2600, 2900, 3400, 3600, and 4500 video cards who have updated to the Catalyst 12.4 driver set may receive errors or graphical distortion in Diablo III. To address the issue, we recommend that affected users download and install the Catalyst 12.4a Hotfix Driver available on www.AMD.com.
Note: Windows XP users with the above cards and players with ATI Radeon HD 5000, 6000, or 7000 series cards are not affected by this issue.
Downloader Issue - Unexpected Encryption Error
If the downloader is closed before it completes its cleanup routine, you may encounter an error when you run the setup file. You must allow the downloader to close automatically before running the setup file. If you experience this error, or an error asking you to insert a disc, run the downloader again and allow it to close itself - this process can take some time to complete.
