How do u check if this 'person' has sent u the payment as gift on paypal?

The money should appear right away on your Paypal account.
Go to Payments Received, or just look at your balance in the top left of "My Account" |

This too. Depending on the amount paid, it's like a $2-3 fee or some dumb shit.
That is how you know for sure if it was sent as a Gift.
If there is no fee charged to you, then he sent it as a regular transaction. |

Not necessarily - the sender has the option to pay the fee themselves if they wanted to.

Click on My Account, and where you see the transaction in the list. Click details, it should tell you everything there, wether they're verified / us / method.
