Do you ever wonder why we dance we we hear a song that we like? Why we bob our heads, or shack them for rock songs? It is not necessary to enjoy the music but many people do it none the less. Furthermore, there are not many individuals who like exercise, and dancing is just another form. So, why do we have the compelling urge to dance to the music we like?. I have a theory, but I need help to prove it or disprove it. Here it is: We move to music because we wish to be part of it. The reason I think this is because it is so vital that an individual remains on beat. Anyone who is not on beat is considered unskilled. I am just wondering, many say they just do it for fun, but that still begs the question why is it fun? Why is it interesting to move to music instead of just sitting there and enjoying it?

I can tell we have a great philosipher on our hands from the first post you have made. I agree to your theory by the way. Here is another proving point, if it helps your case in any manner.

I think everyone at least once in there life has listened to a song, and imagined they were on stage in front of a huge crowd performing that song, whether its singing, playing the guitar or anything. I know i do it often, and hearing everyone go crazy. It's simple proof, to me at least that your theory of wishing to be a part of the sound does exist. In my life, everyday.

First off, welcome to the forums, and two, nice post.

My thoughts are that when people hear music, they usually move to the beat or rythem. Because them imagine playing the guitar, drums, singing, etc.
