Pen tool
Lots of anchors (when you left click it creates an anchor) around the edges of what you want to render
Right click -> Make selection
'M' key (will switch to marquee tool)
Right click -> Select inverse
Delete

Don't feather it.

It's best if you cut out smaller pieces rather than try to do the whole image at once.

Yeah it works pretty good,depending on the difficulty of the render i use various methods ones with a lot of hair or curves i use the pen tool because its the cleanest,for easier ones i use the extract method or masking method

Lol.
Pen tool is not good for things with a lot of hair (detailed/frayed hair, not just solid edge hair).
Pen tool is good for things with solid and defined edges.
I never bother trying to render hair, I just work with the stock.

ya you can render hair really well with the pen tool once you get good with it,or you can even use the lasso
