theres no real rules excep, aslong as any of the sizes isnt redicolus its fine (such as high kb gifs or wallpapers)
i guess you're in fine zone

You can put only 2 Pictures in your signatures and text. The second images have to be a small banner

thats just so no one requests to big sigs

thats from the day when i was added to the gfx forum and asked about the request sticky, for the sizes and stuff
