I have played starcraft for a long time now and have put a lot of time into both blizzard supported maps and money maps. I feel that they both make you a better player but a few of my friends won't even play money maps because they say it is shameful. Whats your view?

when i first started playing starcraft i used money maps. i got pretty good at it too. but i get my ass kicked on normal bilzzard maps, which i am trying to learn now. thing is, money maps are so cheap, once you've started playing it, you can't learn to play normal maps anymore.
there is no need to expand or find more space to build more structures or... anything really. money maps aren't "shameful", but they do take a lot away from what starcraft is meant to be.
i for one have quit money maps altogether, unless it's a UMS map for like phantom or something

yes, it is just a different kind. Like UMS/Melee etc, but tournaments don't get played in Money maps. _____________________

I think people that say FMP is shamefull take the game too serious!
FMP is a nice break from regular maps, in my opinion. _____________________

I think money maps leave more room to increase in skill. Regular maps slow the player down so that everyone pretty much has the same max speed because everyone can reach that speed. When playing money maps, the top speed is much higher and pretty much no one can multi-task fast enough to reach that speed. It just depends how you want to play, but both types would lose in a match against the other. Its just different.

All money maps are, are incredibly simplified normal maps. They take away most of the elements that make melee what it is. There is no need for expanding, the terrain is essentially negligible, and with the bases as big as they are, strategic placement is all but useless except for protecting your nexus/workers. With the ability to produce units so high, micro is hardly used, and everything is focused on macro. If you want to play them for fun, that's all well and good, but if you actually want to improve your skills, non-money is the only way to go.
