Left 4 Dead 2, how to multiplay via lan(tutorial)

Ok, so you want to do some zombie killing with some friends who are right beside you and dont want to be bothered by lag or connection issues.... boy, do i have an answer for you!

(to be honest, im like 75% posting this for myself for reference just in case i cant remember it sometime)


First off, on the main screen.. like the main menu, where you choose what type of game and all that jazz.

Press the "~" key, this will bring up the "console" this is where you type in all the little code and such.

Now, type these (they never change no matter what game you want)
"Sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 1"
"Sv_Lan 1"

Ok now we get to where you choose difficulty and the map, and what type of game you want to play

Basic Campaing:
First off, for each of these the difficulty settings do not change.

We choose the difficulty to play on:
"z_difficulty Easy" (or normal, advanced, expert)

Now lets take a look at what maps we have.

"maps *"
a long list of maps labeled by C#M# (Chapter#Mission#), so say we want to play the campaign from chapter 2 mission 3.. we enter:

"Map c2m3_coaster"

boom the game will load and a notifier will pop up on your friends main menu saying the game is up.

Say you want to play realism or survival or something... well when we choose a map we add something at the end.. ill use the same example.. say we want to play a survival game on c2m3's map. we would enter:
"map c2m3_coaster (survival)"

For realism:
"map c2m3_coaster (realism)"

etc..
