Go to settings--->settings and tracking--->preferences---> notify on new Private Message
I think that might be it..

I also get an email of someone posts in a topic where I posted, but I got this disabled:

Always notify me of replies:
Sends an e-mail when someone replies to a topic you have posted in. This can be changed whenever you post.

Hmm i have it disabled also, try to enable/disable and see if it does anything
