I've only used Xtra Editor, and pretty much mastered the program...those were my glory days of Starcraft. I've been off the scene for a couple of years, so I have a couple of questions: 1) What does this "Scmdraft" have that Xtra Editor doesn't? When I played Xtra Editor was almost undisputedly the best, it could do everything, but playing now I see some things like squared off terrain and stuff that it can't do. 2) Is Scmdraft the evolved form of Stardraft? I remember Stardraft was the rival of Xtra Editor...
And now to cast my vote, I say X-tra Editor #1! But again, my opinion isn't exactly informed, so don't take my word for it. |

1.) Features that Scmd has that X-Tra does not:
-- Square terrain
-- Sprites (motion sprites as well)
-- String editor (allows to see the colored text before the game)
-- Colors (alot more colors than X-Tra [teal, purple, blue, brown, orange, etc..), still no pink however.
2.)I cannot properly answer this one for I have never heard of StarDraft. Sorry. _____________________ Maps Made:

My personal favourite . I use this almost all the time.
StarForge 2.2 Warning: THIS IS AN ADVANCED MAP EDITOR. IT CAN DO SOME THINGS THAT SCMDRAFT 2 CANNOT DO. Find out for yourself!

I use this when I'm too lazy to stack stuff. I used to use this a lot but it started to be mean to me. This randomly crashes too.
Elitegrounds.net I skimmed through this website's editor page (link from DFDurka, post 13), it has some more editors. I won't go through any more, find out yourself.
Hope this helped you guys. |
i could never get starforge to work but i think that star edit emerald or starcraft X-tra editor 2.6 is rly nice |

I have tried every map editor i could find. I stick with a combination of scmdraft and starforge.between those 2 there is nothing you can't do. To throw done some quick terrain i usually use scmdraft more, it seems to go a little faster terrain wise. Though when it comes time for triggers, starforge excells. I downloaded xtra but with these two i never used it but the 1 time to check it out. I guess it would be a preference thing though. |

I'd go with the Starcraft Xtra Editor, it lets lets you stack, its 5 times better than the original one so whats not to like. |

I use Xtra Editor, though my first one was Emerald Staredit (and it'll always hold a place in my heart). I don't care about scmdraft, all the "nice" terrain made with it looks horrible in my opinion sadly _____________________ I logged into LoGD with high spirits. I went to the woods and found a mystical stream. I drank the water and died. I can play again tomorrow.

Why is this topic stickied in its current state? If it is intended to be a resource for map editors, then the files should be downloaded, scanned, placed on the website server[if within legal means], compiled into one post & linked on the website server by a person of merit to maintain safety and link integrity over time.
What you have to realize is, people don't like to use resources that make them work or that are time consuming. People are attracted to convenience. You want the pertinent information to be compiled into the first post.
This is just one of many fundamentals that need worked on to cultivate a growing and active online community. _________________ This user's signature has been disabled |
