It's because you're supposed to have "Near perfect or perfect" gear for Inferno. I'm talking ~70k life... 80k+ DPS, good resists, good armor, life steal etc etc. Remember how D2 hell was so easy even though it was the last difficulty? It's because everyone had decentish(not even amazing) items and still wrecked.
They wanted to prevent that.

26k hp 24k dps (i don't use sharp shooter crap skill) 140 - 210 all res here.
Act 1 soloable easy, act 2, i felel your pain o;o, still stucked at belial since a week or more :'(

You need a good party as well, makes it much easier in act 2 inferno. Don't worry by the time Expansion comes out with some new overpowered items like runewords/charms etc, you will be able to beat inferno ez and bot there all day long.

Unfortunatly you gotta farm for awhile to get some gear upgrades.
Just do some farming in a1 for a bit and you should be alright, I made about 350k in it yesterday in about 30 mins, depends on luck.

the problem with inferno is you have to be heavily geared to not get 1-2 shot.
not so much a problem at all, actually.
the problem is there is no place to farm in hell for gear capable of doing inferno.
what with lvl 56 being the highest rare that drops

Exactly, even the gear that drops in act 1inferno, is usually level 54-59 gear, with the odd 60, but even then the 60 has useless mods 9/10 times

dude all you find in hell are like lvl 52-56 lvl req items.
