The original version contained the a cappella line "Alvin, Simon, Theodore are gay" near the end, where the line "Jackin' Mike D. to my dismay" appears in the original song. Dr. Demento plays the song with this line edited out unless otherwise specified.
The edit was recreated for Basement Tapes No. 5, and turned out to be slightly off the beat as compared to the edit used for prior airings.
Although there was a stereo mix made in 1987, the version sent to Dr. Demento was mono. In January, 1997, Jeff Morris made a new stereo mix from the original 4-track tape, and that has been used for most plays since, although it remains unreleased.
