Wissenschaftler sind der Meinung, dass Australien von Marco Polo im 12 Jahrhundert entdeckt wurde. Er erw�hnte, dass er ein Land gesehen hatte, s�dlich vom Java.

1770 erkundete schlie�lich der Kapit�n James Cook die Ostk�ste Australiens und nahm das Land als britische Kolonie in Besitz. Als die USA nicht mehr unabh�ngig von England war, suchte England nach neuen M�glichkeiten um ihre Str�flinge wegzuschaffen und schickten sie so nach Australien � Das Ziel der Engl�nder war, die Unterschicht so gut wie m�glich abzuschaffen und so f�hrten schon die kleinsten Verbrechen dazu, dass man als Str�fling nach Australien geschickt wurde.

1788 erreichten die ersten 11 Schiffe �First Fleet� Mit Siedlern und Verurteilten in Australien ein, die Kapit�ne der Schiffe waren Arthur Phillip und Port Jackson. Die neue Ansiedlung in Australien wurde Sydney genannt.
Bis 1868 wurden etwa 160000 Strafgefangene nach Australien gebracht und dort festgehalten.

1851 wurde n�he Melbourne Gold gefunden und das pr�gte Australien und eine Gold�ra entstand. In diesen Jahren kamen die ersten Aufst�nde der Strafkolonien, aber das britische Milit�r und auch die Polizisten hatten die Verantwortlichen niedergeschlagen. Nun kamen auch freiwillig Menschen nach Australien und die Strafkolonien konnten so nicht l�nger gehalten werden. So war der Weg f�r eine Nation gegeben.

1898 entstand die heimliche Nationalhymne der Kolonien und es wurde schon dar�ber gesprochen die einzelnen Staaten zu vereinen � Australien war immer unabh�ngiger von den Engl�ndern.

Typische Vertreter der australischen Tierwelt sind die Beuteltiere. Bekannte Vertreter sind die K�ngurus mit �ber 40 Arten, der Koala, der Wombat, der Beutelteufel, die Beutelmaus und die Gattung der Kletterbeutler. Einzigartig auf der ganzen Welt sind Eier legende S�ugetiere (Kloakentiere), die nur in Australien und Neuguinea vorkommen. In Australien sind sie vertreten durch das Schnabeltier und den Ameisenigel. Vor der Besiedlung Australiens durch den Menschen waren Plazentatiere nur durch Flederm�use, Flughunde, Robben und Nagetiere vertreten.

When the USA wasn't independent from England anymore, England searched for oppertunities to bring off its convicts and sent them to Australia - The aim/goal of the Englishmen was to disestablish the lower class as good as possible and so even the smallest crimes resulted in getting sent to Australia as convict.

In 1780 the first 11 ships arrived at "First Fleet" with colonizers and condemned criminals. The ships captains were Arthur Phillip and Port Jackson. The new settlement in Australia was called Sydney.
Till 1868 about 160000 convicts were brought to Australia and hold on there.

In 1851 gold was found near Melbourne which characterised Australia and lead to a gold era. In these years the first riots of the convict colonies came, but the british military and the police as well striked the persons responsible down. Now men came voluntarily to Australia and the penal colonies couldn't be held captive anymore. So the way to a nation was given.

In 1898 the hidden/secret national anthem of the colonies arose and it was talken about uniting the seperate states - Australia became more and more independent of the Englishmen/from England.

Typical representatives of the Australian fauna/(animal world) are marsupials. Well-known representatives are the kangaroos with over 40 different species, the koala, the wombat, the Tasmanian devil, (the wombat, wombat ist beutelmaus ^^ also brauchste nur einmal erw�hnen) and the class of phalangeridae/possums. Unique throughout the world are oviparous (egg-laying) mammals (monotremes), which only exist in Australia and New Guinea. In Australia they are represented by the duckbill/(platypus/duck-billed platypus) and the echidna/(spiny anteater). Before the colonisation of Australia by men, placental mammals only had been represented by bats, fruitbats/flying foxes, seals and rodents.
