Personally i'll make a sorc to go with 2 - 3 mates for the begining.
One will make a demon hunter, another one monk and 4th (we'll see it later).
We plan to do the co op game in softcore in 1st all together as a team. 
Getting 2-3 periods per weeks like 3 x 4 hours or so.
On the other hand, we'll probably (i, at least  with a demon hunter \o/ ) going to farm with another char or play hc.
And you ?

In fact i don't really want to play as sorc (not yet at least).
I'll try to finish the game will the whole 5 chars but i would prefer to start with demon hunter.
Why did i choose sorc then ?
I was hesitating between sorc and dh, but the balance goes to sorc as we'll play on team
and one of us (well, that will be the only girl in the group  ) don't want to play other class for start.

Good plan.
First two SC chars will get you very experienced in the game and understanding what you're going to need for Hell/NM/maybe inferno before you attempt hardcore XD
If I had a better connection and computer, I'd attempt hardcore..but I don't

1 char for farm alone, whenever i want to, alone, with some friends, in public ...
And when i'm done with inferno with thoses 2 guyz i think i'll move to hc, as at least 2 of my friends will do.

Have they announced anything about a "more players - harder monsters" feature yet? Such as D2 had, and would announce "afjwfnrg joined - Diablo's minions grow stronger"

Someone answered that question with a link a couple days ago on JSP.
You don't get more EXP per player, but they do get more HP supposedly.

| Ok that makes sense. I don't see leveling being very hard so the bonus xp would be pretty worthless. Glad about the hp tho, everything they can do to make the game harder is a good thing. |

So far yet you have seen how much time it cuold take to do 1-13.
I don't think 13-60 will be that easy.
+ You'll certainly lost xp for each death, after you reached nightmare difficulty.
