paladin?
as in hammerdin?

enigma (not cheap, but you need it to play one), spirit shield, spirit sword or wizzy, waterwalks, shako/rare circlet/peasant crown, trang/magefist, rare ammy, dwarf star, raven frost.. (or rare rings, depending on your purpose)

if you want to play a enigmaless hammerdin, use vipermagi or que-hagens or shaftstop (in that order)

Enigma is not neccecary for hammerdin. For any class (expect sorceress) enigma is always good bonus because of the +1 teleport.

Spirit shield&sword are easy to gain. Shako not so easy (i think ? i never dropped 1) but rare circlet with pally skills is easy to find.

I've managed to do solo cs after 2 days start of this ladder with stuff like dual spirit, peasant hat etc just look to get enough fcr, some res, frw and your there. There are plenty of low rw's that can be usefull.

A paladin with no gear? My faith would lie in a melee paladin; perhaps a smiter or charger.

i agree.
smite for pvm.
actually, a zealer would be better to start with in my opinion.
but, i would have to say that it wouldn't be the greatest thing to start ladder with.

I was going to say zealer, but in the end they almost completely depend on gear. With a smiter, all you really need is some life steal and you're good.

Personally, I'll probably start off with a summoning necromancer for the 1.13 patch, just because I'm a crutch smile .

well, smiter's need good gear to deal decent damage.
all you really need is a rare weapon with damage per level and some life steal for a zealer.
tongue
and like i said, i'm starting with a trap sin.

But dealing good damage or not, as long as the smiter has life steal then they can be invincible when facing one enemy, it may just take longer.

How do they do on ladder resets?

Here's what you do..

Make a Hammerdin, just put the skills in

Put about 200 to Vita, about 50 to Str

Just use gear that fits you, dont go out of your way

When you find Anni/Torch/Enigma.. then change your stuff.

True, but so can zealers.

Not sure, but i'm guessing good since i can lay traps and hide.
And they're easiest for mfing without tele thanks to burst of speed.

I'm thinking about Sin for reset, mass Eldrich runs = minimal Light Immune

But I would still always take smite over zeal because of the attack rating.
