Her passing skills are perhaps her best contribution, however it is a shame that what Blue River boasts in shooting it lacks in guard playmaking. Chamberlin's 3.2 assists per game average in the past has risen to 4.3 per game as of this season. The defensive attention she garners helps Madden and the players on the team excel.

"We've definitely become a lot closer that when she first showed up. She was a bit shy initially, but now me and her are joking around. We're friends in the courts," Madden said. "My sophomore year we didn't really have an (knockdown) shooter So the strategy they employed to stop us was play me up in the post. This is how we lost in semi-state. Having Maci available helps tremendously."

"It provides us with an inside-out punch," Bales said. "Her ability to pass is amazing ... she sees the ground so clearly and she's very humble."

The halfcourt offense runs through Madden. Bales aim to get the ball to her in the low area so she can score, or kick-out to shooters after the defense has collapsed. Madden has been doing lots of quick swing passes in the process, which has led to a record-setting 2.5 assists for each game average in the first three games.

"I enjoy (the increased accountability)," Madden said. "I recognize that there are times I'm able to get the team on track which is why I think whenever we can start the ball moving quickly and I'm out there, that might help us get more motivation."
