Around how much are you looking to spend and is it strictly for school meaning you won't install any games that require high graphics?

If you're looking 1000+ then buy a PC
If you're looking 1000- then buy a Laptop

If you ask me, I would buy a Laptop

Heh, I run boot camp on my laptop, wich mean I can do more then you, which proves pretty much my point of geting mac (Theres more if you want..). Two operative systems for the price of one.. And if you want a Pc laptop to play games on you still needs to pay pretty much for it..

And for everyone who doesn't belive me, read and weap:

So you think you know more about mac just because you can make a program on a pc, which would be convinceing how?

If you wanna try and outsmart me, please come up with some serious arguments..

And if you wanna flame me, please use the battlefield..

i program on macs too... there isn't much to do... everything is too simple... and trust me... simple is not good...

viruses for a pc is so much harderto write these days since they have been fighting them for a LONG time... but for macs? i can write a virus in the time i am writing this message lol... and it will be very effective too... the only reason there isn't any viruses for macs is because not that much people use it... also beacuse hackers dont gain anything but destroying macs... cause nothing important uses macs...

plus the forum and the world say macs are not as good as pcs... its you against the world... you still wanna fight? smile

Now your getting closer. Simplicity is not always bad, which is one of the main reasons I prefer mac; Fewer keystrokes.. Well, which often mean higher productivity..

So, um yes, I do some basic programming on mac too, nothing epic, since I find if boring.. But I know what it's about..

"Not much to do on a mac", I strongly disagree on that one. Come to think of it, I can't come up with anything you cannot do on a mac that you can do on a pc. Please post here if you do.. And if this is about programs, I would like to mention, it's not about qantity, more like about quality..

And how come I can use both operating systems? Well..

"Nothing important uses mac" is a lie big as macs never crash, they do, just not as often. Market share includes companies..

Viruses are still "easy" to write, for pc (acctuarly I can't really tell anymore).. Just that it's way more common for pc users to have an anti virus program..

So, you enough old to remember the Love Bug? Or the BubbleBoy? It's quiet funny you know, when you could write a few lines of code in visual basic, and you could screw up a computer really good.. Can't really do that anymore tho..

And, it not "me against the world".. Mac has 10%-15% (not really sure exact) of the market share, and gaining.. So why is this so? Well, main reason I think is, marketing. So, no, I don't wanna fight, acctuarly, I don't see a reason too.. And I think I made my point clear enough..

I think I should say, I have slight lack of knowledge in the very latest pc have to come with, not very up to date at the moment.. So I would not say Pc is bad, anymore, but I do know that mac isn't..

So btw, does vista still auto download .exe files? Just heard rumors xp did that..

PCs are generally less expensive than macs if roughly equal capabilities.

laptops are also a lot more expensive than desktops. unless it absolutely has to be a laptop, you should probably look into getting some parts and assembling a desktop.
if your school really needs a laptop you could always assemble a desktop and get a really cheap laptop.

ofc another thing to consider is that if your computer at home is not very good then getting a laptop might be pretty good since then you'd be able to play d3 over the break.

at any rate, fujitsu, IBM, and dell make pretty good laptops i think. although with dell im not that sure about this anymore since i havent looked at one in a while but they used to be pretty good; their XPS gaming laptops are prolly what you'd be getting if you get a dell and i hear those are still pretty good. you can also check the reviews online, those are usually pretty useful too.

a few things to keep in mind: with playing RPGs like diablo, make sure your hard drive is decent! a bad hard drive CAN AND WILL lag your framerate (7200 rpm is good enough, but i doubt you need anything more; 10k rpm and solid state drives are overkill imo, although solid state is supposed to be more durable).

I agree a desktop PC would be good for you, if you don't need a laptop for class. Building a good one will cost you a lot less if you bought one already made. You just have to find the right parts and deals for them.

RAM is becoming so cheap now after rebates, quad cores are getting cheaper (cheapest I've seen has been $180.00), high storage HDDs are also cheaper, 22" monitors I'm seeing for about $150-$200 after rebates and even 19" ones around $80-$100 after rebate, I don't know much about graphics card, DVD drives are $20.00 shipped, sometimes they sell motherboards with CPUs at a great price. Since you're a student you can get an OS for cheap.

If you do build one go to www.newegg.com they always have great prices there.
