When you start the game they will set you on your path to the "story mode" where you just do quests that follow the paths you chose when you first made your character, so if u picked u never recovered your sisters body or whatever and the type of status you picked will determine where you begin. Anyways thats just story mode you can complete any time u want. You have another thing to do to gain levels and gold which acts as mini quests are doing heart completions on your map (Theres also dynamic events in some areas well almost everytime you go somewhere theres an dynamic event where you can kill bosses and earn extra gold/karma/exp, usually everyone goes to these then returns back to do their hearts). These reward you with gold/karma/exp and they contribute to 100% completion once you've completed everything. Which gives you some exclusive items that can only be given once completed which lets you create a legendary item. (The piece given from world completion is a prerequisite to making a legendary).

Thats PVE wise... there are no quests or anything like there is in WoW. At 80 you can go to an area called Orr where theres a huge group of zerg.. where you chain events (There are no hearts here just events) Its quite fun actually Purpose of this is to get "Exotic items" and salvage them to get MATS.. to create whatever is it you wanna craft. Or just to make money by selling whatever you find on the trading post. You also have jumping puzzles which are hard to do... they are obstacles you have to overcome to reach a certain "Vista" which is a view point and these can often get hard and frustrating due to falling over ledges and etc. Also this game is a COSMETIC game, if you're looking for that GRIND to get better gear than everyone else.. this is not the game for you.
At level intervals all gear are the same stats but depending on what build you wanna go they obviously have different stats. You can just pick which type you prefer due to looks or however your game play is. IF you like damage, you go berserkers if you like tank you go valkyrie set. You'll pick it up and understand as you progress in your game.

PVP is pretty simple and straight forward. You go to heart of the mists, set up your traits choose your weapon combinations.. Forgot to mention that your SKILLS are based on your weapon combinations.. so choose which you prefer for your style of game play. in PVP you earn Glory.. which to purchase tokens to craft better looking gear or top tier gear as you level up.
This game is very pvp oriented and can get very fun if you get good at the class you play.
